“Work smart, not hard.” This seemed like a quote that a lazy person would find in a fortune cookie to use it for justifying his negligence. However, after truly pondering about these matters, I concluded that it was a actually a universal philosophy that can be applied to nearly everything in life. Its underlying message is that it makes more sense to think through the future than mindlessly act upon impulse. It is truly amazing how a simple quote would grant me the gift of thinking as an individual, and has reformed my brain to be more open-minded.
It is one thing to learn something, but another to apply it in real life. With my newfound discovery, I was able to transform myself from an obnoxious and ignorant twit to a person with the ability to think for himself, to use logic and reason to solve obstacles in life, and to become an efficient time manager. Before discovery of such knowledge and wisdom, I was incapable of deciding what to pursue in life. In school, I would be a mindless sheep, follow the herd, learning what was being taught, only to forget all the concepts, facts, and formulas learned a few weeks later. I would only care about the answer, and nothing about the process. For instance, when I was taking Algebra I, I would be satisfied with passing tests with rote memorization rather than logic and intelligence, and rushing through homework instead of actually learning the material. Post-epiphany, as I learned new theories in school, I crave for the solution for every problem. Recognizing my previous poor habits in Algebra I, I now study and try to utilize all the information that goes around in class for future references. It had finally dawned on me that the more education I obtain in life will make me a better and more useful human begin in society.
