Why is Wikipedia a reliable source?
Over the years we have come to know Wikipedia as a reliable source of information. Students, Educators and Professionals use the online encyclopedia as a source of credible information that they utilize in their papers, reports and presentations. According to Cnet, an online credible news source, Jimmy Wales (the founder of Wikipedia) has always maintained that the service and its community are built around a self-policing and self-cleaning nature that is supposed to ensure its articles are accurate. To the argument of an open-source database, Wikipedia is known as having some of the most influential and credible authors of our time posting their researched information for others to view and use. In addition, because other encyclopedias don’t have the capability of amending information as quickly, Wikipedia is now known as a valuable, updated source simply because of its outside contributions. Other professional political and science related websites deem that Wikipedia has caught a bad “rap” in the past because of some of the credibility issues it faces while at the same time boasting how enlightening and informational some of the authors can be. It’s for this reason that we can deem Wikipedia as a great starting point for our research while maintaining credibility and authenticity.

Why is Wikipedia not a reliable source?
Wikipedia started as Nupedia in 2000 and became Wikipedia in January 2001. Wikipedia is known as the free, user complied, open edited encyclopedia written by people who have not done extensive research on the subject. Based on the   Yale Daily News, Professors are adamantly opposed to the use of Wikipedia for academic work. Some Professors said they do not believe Wikipedia should ever be cited by students as a source in any academic paper.   Like Yale, many universities agree and frown upon the use of Wikipedia as a source of reference.   Wikipedia is a website that is based on anonymous contributions....
