Good morning, principal, teachers, learners, parents and friends.
Thomas Edison once said "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."
Today is the day that each and every high school pupil looks forward to on their first day of grade 8. We don’t realise how soon it will actually come. If we think back to grade 8, it feels like just yesterday but in reality it is 5 years have passed, 5 years in which we have matured, grown, experienced and made memories.
Without our parents, teachers, principal, family, friends and not forgetting The Almighty, we would not have been where we are today. So, on behalf of the matrics I would like to say thank you to our parents who have accompanied us on our high school journey. You have supported us, kept us on the right path and you have been loyal to us, just by being here today is proof of what I have just said. We may feel that at times you have been too strict or unreasonable but if you hadn’t been that way there is a chance we may not have gotten this far. On behalf of all the matrics l’d like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to all our past and present teachers as well as Mrs Flack for your time and dedication. We would also like to apologise to parents and teachers for any disrespect towards them but as you know, we are not perfect, although this matric class is the closest you’ll get to perfection. (lol)
To the future matrics, don’t take it for granted that you will be here one day. It takes hard work, sacrifice and dedication to get here but listen to your teachers, they don’t mean any harm, everything they do will only benefit you. So I wish you all the best.
Finally, to the matrics, there have been ups and downs over the past few years, there may still be some who don’t see eye to eye but today we are celebrating this occasion as one matric class of 2013. Nobody can say that they hated their high school career because they’d be lying, there...
