Abortion is the murder of an innocent child, therefore it should be illegal. Many tend to forget in abortion situations, that it is not just the mother’s life one is dealing with, it is the unborn child’s life too. Why should anyone make the decision if that child gets to live or die? Whether one is Pro-Choice or Pro-Life, they should know the facts of what they stand behind.
First let’s compare the legal definitions of abortion and murder. An abortion is the spontaneous or artificially induced expulsion of an embryo or fetus (The Free Dictionary By Farlex, n.d.). In other words terminating the growth of a growing child within a mother. While murder is the killing of a human being by a sane person, with intent, malice aforethought, and with no legal excuse or authority (Legal Dictionary, n.d.). Basically meaning that a person had prior intention to kill the particular victim (Legal Dictionary, n.d.). Using both of these definitions, one can see the relation where abortion is murder. The mother has intentions of terminating the life of her unborn child.
The common misconception is that the fetus is not even developed, so one cannot classify it as murder. But in reality, some states allow abortions are to take place up to twenty-four weeks of age, or during the mother’s third trimester (Abortion Procedures, n.d.). At that stage of pregnancy the baby has already started to develop a brain and taste buds and even has distinct facial features (Baby Center, n.d.). The mother would already know the sex of her child also. Yes certain circumstances are very unfortunate and hard to come to terms with. But this does not give a woman the right to terminate the life of her unborn child because of her situation. Adoption is always a good alternative to a mother who cannot take care of her child or does not wish to have a child. There are many people out there that cannot bear a child and would love nothing more than to adopt.
