Describe the factors that will influence the choice of leadership styles or behaviours in workplace situations, Explain why these leadership styles or behaviours are likely to have a positive or negative effect on individual and group behaviour

I work in a charity organisation called Changes UK, a supported housing service and Recovery Academy, supporting vulnerable adults who wish to abstain from using alcohol and drugs. I am the Care Coordinator at our organisation; I am also a team leader of a small group of support workers. These are the factors that could affect the choice of leadership styles or behaviours in workplace situations
Substance misuse field poses a number of complicated challenges for teams and managers. Constant new developments in the treatment field, pressure to meet ever changing targets, dealing with one of the most difficult client group, frequent changes in the counselling and healthcare industry, binge culture, availability of drug and alcohol, low prices, poly drug culture, low motivational level among service users and many others. These issues manifest many challenges for team mangers. Some of the influencing factors are:
• Low motivational level among staff
• Burn out feelings
• Organizational policies and procedures
• Managing caseload
• Providing effective treatment
• Child protection issues
• Training needs
• Clinical supervision
• Intra – team issues – team dynamics
• Effective working relationship with other professionals
• Team and individual targets

I am aware of the above-mentioned factors. I use more directive style whilst dealing with company policies and procedures, mainly to have a more transparent and fair approach in order to make sure that everyone is treated equally.
