In this paper I will choose the TV show’s called “How I met your mother”. This TV show revolves around day to day situations amongst a group of friends about getting around in life. The particular episode that was chosen was aired on October 1st 2012 on the city TV network. The episode is about a character in the show called “Barney” who plays an egotistical distinguished alpha-male, decides to put together a prenuptial agreement for his fiancé.

From a personal perspective, the ideology behind the TV show was purely governed by the idea that the general public has the control over a political process.   the media has the instrumental function of enabling the public to believe that a democratic rule is attainable through transparency. The show depicts this as follows; Barney, who is viewed as the alpha-male in the show, representing the authoritarian side of the story, resembling the government. Barney decides to devise a prenuptial agreement for his fiancé; the prenuptial agreement resembling a legislation. Barney’s friends, who are viewed as neighboring governments/states decide to take this idea into consideration with their girlfriends/wives. The girlfriends/wives in this TV show resemble the general public, as a distinct characteristic that both groups possess is sharing of information, whether it is through chit-chatting, or through social media.   The prenuptial agreement that was devised was extremely sophisticated and harmful for the girlfriends/wives; this is an example of a legislation that isn’t approved by the general public.

This show can be viewed from an audience member’s point of view as a regular TV show with no direct motives or policies; however, once it is analyzed deeply a trend is then discovered that pleases those who want to be pleased.
