The Holocaust genocide was the mass extermination of the Jewish population in Germany and other countries with German influences. The Darfur genocide that started in 2003 and ended when a peace agreement was signed in 2011 was when groups in Darfur accused the Sudanese government of oppressing non-Arab Sudanese people. These two cases are somewhat similar and different at the same time.
The Holocaust was the mass murder of over six million Jewish people in German territories. The Holocaust started with Kristallnacht, which is “the Night of Broken Glass.” This occurred on November 7th, 1938. Over 7,000 Jewish shops were vandalized, synagogues were destroyed, and at least 91 people died. Many Jews were sent to concentration camps, but were released eventually. From 1933 to 1945, Jews were sent to concentration camps, these were used as a way to exterminate the Jewish population. In the beginning of the Holocaust, many people were sent to labor camps but died of infections or from working so much. There were about six large concentration camps that were used to kill the Jews upon entry into the camp. The Jews that weren’t immediately sent to concentration camps lived in Ghettos until they were sent to the extermination camps. Living in ghettos was terrible, considering the size of the area was condensed and many families had to live in one house together. Gas chambers were invented as a way to kill Jews and others quickly. The camps started being liberated in 1944, and the last camp was liberated on May 8th, 1945.
The War in Darfur began in 2003 in Sudan. People in Darfur were accusing the Sudanese government of causing distress for the non-Arab Sudanese people, and not the Sudanese Arabs. The Darfur Genocide is the mass killing of Darfur men, women, and children in Western Sudan. The group that took part in these killings was known as the Janjaweed.
