Asses the Marxist view that the main role of the family is to serve the interest capitalism.
Marxists view the family in a different way and views the family as a tool of Capitalism and the Bourgeoisie. Marxists believe that the family has many roles, which serve interest to capitalism.
Many Marxists believe that the main role of the family is to be a unit of consumption because they constantly buying the latest gadgets or keeping up with the latest fashion. They spend money which gives the Bourgeoisie power to control the state and what they should buy and see in the media this is the idea that the working class is a false class and always being exploited. Other Marxists such as Zaretsky have suggested that the family may help to sustain the capitalist system and the capitalist class. Marxists also believe that after a hard day of being exploited by the bourgeoisie, the main provider of the money in the household which is generally the male will be comforted by his family and the next day they will be ready to go back to work less stressed then they were the evening before. This allows the bourgeoisie to have a worker in the next day and to have a guaranteed workforce this benefits the capitalism and shows the family is a big interest.
However functionalists like Murdock and Parsons believe that the capitalism gets no benefit from the family so has no interest in them because the family only benefits the society which it is in.
