  * Dr. Sally Ride was born May, the 26th 1951 in Los Angeles, California.
  * She graduated from Stanford University in 1973 and double majored in physics and English.
  * In 1978 she received a Ph. D in Physics.
  * Also in 1978 Dr. Ride beat 1,000 other applicants for a spot in the NASA astronaut program and went through vigorous training for space.
  * In 1983, Sally Ride became the first American woman in space.
  * In all Dr. Ride was the third woman in space because two other women from Russia went first back in 1963.
  * Since Dr. Ride was also well known for her study of Physics she founded her own company called Sally Ride Science.
  * Serving as president and CEO Dr. Ride founded the company to inspire girls and young women to pursue their interests in science and math.
  * Dr. Ride was also became the first American woman in space aboard the space shuttle Challenger, her job was to help deploy satellites in space.
  * After working for NASA, Sally Ride became the director of the California Space Institute in the University of California.
  * She also was a professor of physics at the school in 1989.
  * For her contributions to the field of science and space exploration, Dr. Ride received many honors, including the NASA Space Flight Medal.
