Better Social/Emotional Care for Elders
The focus of this document is to raise awareness about the importance of good social/emotional care with regard to eldercare. Raising awareness about the importance of social/emotional care is the first step toward creating better social/emotional care. Social/emotional care, as practiced in healthcare, refers to the healthcare provider’s ability to recognize, identify, assess and treat the elderly patient’s social and emotional needs. There are numerous benefits available to the patients, the family members of patients, as well as to the healthcare providers of patients in providing good social/emotional care. Most of society assumes that this aspect of care will be administered by providers naturally and sufficiently without deliberate attention or support. The resulting consequences of this oversight are inadequate social/emotional care which adversely affects everybody in the healthcare community....
