Rapunzel is from the German culture.   It is about a lonely couple who are wishing for a child.   They live next to a walled in garden that belongs to an enchantress and after becoming pregnant the wife experiences cravings of a rapunzel plant in the garden or she will just die.   The husband retrieves the plant to feed to his wife but only get caught by Dame Gothel.   The enchantress only understands if they give up their child to her.   So when the baby is born they hand her over to Dame Gothel and she names her Rapunzel.   She grows up to be a beautiful young girl with long golden hair and when she turns twelve Gothel looks her up in a tower.   Then when Gothel visits she calls out Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair and Gothel climbs up.   One day a prince was riding through the woods and heard the wonderful sound of Rapunzel’s voice singing.   He returns many days to listen to her beautiful voice and then saw the witch yell out to her and then climbed up to the tower on her hair.   So when Dame Gothel leaves he calls out and she let down her hair.   They meet and he eventually asks her to marry him, she says yes and they make an escape plan.   But Rapunzel gives the prince away before the plan is finished and the enchantress cuts off her hair so she can no longer bring the prince up.   And then sends Rapunzel to the desert.   When the prince calls out to Rapunzel at the tower the enchantress lets down Rapunzel’s cut hair.   When Rapunzel is nowhere to be found the prince jumps out of the tower and is blinded by thorns that he falls into.   The prince wanders for days just wishing for his wife to come back....
