Public related concern: Hillcroft Nursing Home
Three carers were found guilty of abusing elderly residents because they were bored and wanted some entertainment.
These carers mocked, bullied and assaulted the residents. One carer stamped on the foot of a resident whilst mocking others by throwing bean bags at them and touching them. Another carer tipped a resident out of a wheelchair and finally another was caught in bed next to an extremely distressed resident.
Just these few lines are enough to make a genuine carer sick to the stomach. These vulnerable people go into care homes to be looked after and cared for by people they trust. For many residents the care home they are in is the last place they have to call home and for these sick people to do what they have done is appalling.
These individuals give care homes a really bad name which to the public taints how they all see carers and the homes they work in. Myself, as a carer, try my hardest everyday to make sure that the residents I look after are treat with dignity, a sense of safety and the highest standard of respect that I can. After all these people gave up their husband and dads in a war for this country. The elderly need a friendly and homely atmosphere to relax in and they deserve this. They must of felt so scared and alone and it makes me extremely angry to think about it.
This sort of treatment is a major cause for concern as the publics overall view is tainted by the minority that do these wicked things. It is hard enough to place a loved one into care without having these things to worry about on top of that.
I am deeply appalled by their behaviour and strongly believe that they should serve time in prison and they should suffer the same torment that they caused these poor residents.
