Abstract
There are numerous ways stress can become evident in one’s life; some people become stressed when they encounter life changes. Stress is known as the “fight or flight” response to change in a person’s life. Acute stress disorder and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder are two psychological stress disorders that people experience. Aside from work related stress there are a multitude of other stress factors in the change of life events. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder occurs when a person experiences a traumatic event, but trauma is not the only known cause of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. People who have Type D personality traits have been associated with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Some reports indicate that poor health can be associated with stress disorders. Military personnel, hurricane, and rape victims are just a few of the types of people who can experience posttraumatic disorders; but other life changes can cause posttraumatic disorders too. The treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder can be a long and drawn out process. Some of the treatment options for either stress disorder are counseling, medication, desensitization, and support groups. This research paper will provide enough information to educate anyone experiencing Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and the family members of those diagnosed with the disorder.
