Having spent a considerable amount of time working in the personal caring sector, I came upon the realisation that my passion and goals lay within a nursing career
I completed my GCSE’s with eight passes and this was an achievement for me as it meant that it was easier to get into higher education. Whilst doing my GCSE’s I was very much involved in sporting activates to maintain a good health and physique. I chose to go into 6th form to complete my A-levels which were challenging but with dedication and motivation I managed to complete them with 2 passes.
When I finished my A-levels, I was given an opportunity to maximise my employability skills by a company called JHP. During my time at JHP I did a two week course in Health and Social Care which allowed me to acquire some knowledge on what is involved when working with the elderly, children and all other service users. During this course I understood that service users need different care as an individual, I also learnt about the importance of communication and treating everyone equally without discriminating. I was also trained in First Aid at Work, Manual Handling, Infection Control, Fire Awareness and Food and Hygiene. This training gave me an insight of a few things that I could face whilst working within the health sector which also helped me when I was employed by the company that I’m currently working for.
Working in a care home and independent living facility, I have learnt so much about what to expect when I finally move on to the career that I’m pursuing. I work with people with different illnesses, dementia being the main one which taught me to be patient and empathetic. Every day is different and you meet a lot of people with different personalities, likes and dislikes. It gives me great pleasure when I sit down and talk to someone as this puts a smile on their face.
