Working with people who are less fortunate than I am made me realize that I am really blessed and I should be more thankful for what I have. I volunteered at Mission Arlington on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. Emily, a lady that supervised, placed me in the clothing room. I had to put hangers on the donated clothes and take them to the store that was three doors away. I had to go back and forth. There were many workers there, but more help in that room could’ve been useful. When I got into the store, there were many different races in there. It ranged from White, Blacks, and Hispanics. One lady didn’t even let me put the clothes on the rack. She would see something and take it out of the bin I carried. It showed me that someone’s used clothes were like gold to another person.
I feel like the people benefited from my service because I was hard working. The people only had a certain amount of time to be in the store, which caused me to work faster and harder so that they could get some really good clothes. I met a little boy named Cameron. He was the cutest little boy ever and he wouldn’t stop looking at me. I asked him what his name was and how old he was. He was a little shy but he talked to me. I saw a really nice Texas Rangers jersey and I went to go get it for him from the clothes room. When I gave it to him, he had the biggest smile on his face. Even though the jersey was used, he cherished it dearly.
I like working to see people happy because not everybody has it easy. Being able to have clothes, shoes, a car, and more is beyond a blessing and I am very grateful that I have what I have. I benefited from working with people because I gave up my plans and time of day to help someone less fortunate get clothes. There are some parts of the world where people don’t even
have shoes to wear. I was able to help people in some type of way. I was able to get kids something to wear and that’s what matters. Helping someone only helps you realize that you’re a good...
