I wrote this essay to explain my personal ethics and reflect upon them. I will go over such things as my ethical blind spot, my preferred ethical perspective, and my ethical values, as well as my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to ethics. My core ethical values are temperance and justice, and my preferred ethical perspective is rights and responsibility.
The reason I value temperance is because it is a reflection on one’s past. I learn from past mistakes as well as building on past successes. I value other people’s rights and expect them to maintain their responsibilities as much as I do. However, I would never ask someone to do something I would not do. For example, I would not ask someone to give me the answers to a test because I would not do that myself.
My ethical blind spot is my belief that motive justifies the method or overconfidence in the process. I rely too much on the system of ethics and to do what it is supposed to do, but I can overcome this by thinking outside of the box and understanding that the system itself is imperfect. It is designed that way intentionally so that it can be adjusted for each individual that follows it. The system is designed to bend not break so that we all come to the same result we just might take a different path to get to it. For example, copy right laws if you use an artist song to make a track of your own but it has pieces of their song in it you must give them credit by posting a disclaimer with it or risk being sued. This is technically not stealing at that point because you have stated that you do not own any rights to the song you used to make your own track.
My ethical strengths are self-awareness and justice, I strive to maintain fairness for the entire community, and I do my best to be just in all of my actions to achieve the most logical and beneficial end result of any project. My weakness is the fact that if I do not pay attention I have a tendency to exempt myself or my group from the rules or...
