“What’s up, rat face?” is the usual salute I give Danny as I see him when I come from an exhausting day at work. There he is, minding his own business, laying in bed with his face in his laptop, not paying much attention to what is going on in our home. Nine times out of ten I find him in the same spot, in the same position, doing the exact same thing. Sometimes I wonder whether the Internet ever gets boring.
“Shut up!” is the usual delayed response that I get from him, followed by “I’m watching a video.” In this stressful and unpredictable life, it’s good to see some things that never change. I sometimes lie on my bed and reminisce how many things my brother and I went through during our childhood. Aimlessly wandering in the Romanian ghetto, causing trouble everywhere we went, and I don’t mean to brag, but our little gang had quite the reputation. I grew up alongside this kid, and as I look back, I see how long of a way the both of us have come, and even though we’re both far from perfect, we have both contributed to the development of each other’s characters. He’s always been there by my side, making him one of a select few that have seen a 360 degree panoramic view of who Emanuel really is, and he was and still is one of the few people that I dare trust, therefore making him a major factor that is shaping the person that I am today.
“Yo… Emi.” And a few minutes pass by. I respond with “What’s up.” “Remember when we were little?” he says.
“Oh my God, yeah! We were such losers!” and after our little starter, our conversation starts to take shape. We talk about or past our, our present, how our past has influenced our present, and how we could have been different, and sometimes we have the deepest conversations about things that are unknown and what we really believe, not this b.s. religion that has been shoved down my throat our whole lives.
