To achieve a better understanding of the issue of obesity and overweight is a global health problem, this time I will offer definitions that will clarify the concepts we have, also know statistics, the causes that produce and recommendations to prevent and control obesity and overweight   in humans and animals.


Obesity and overweight is an abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat in the body, which can be detrimental to the health of man and woman.
The method of calculating the Body Mass Index, does not vary by gender or age in the adult population. The World Health Organization defines overweight as a BMI equal to or greater than 25, and obesity as a BMI equal to or greater than 30. However, the risk of chronic disease increases from a BMI of 21.

The latest estimates in 2005 the World Health Organization indicate that worldwide: Approximately 1600 million adults (age 15 +) were overweight and 400 million obese adults.
One of the most alarming data is that worldwide 20 million children under 5 years are obese. The World Health Organization estimated in 2015 there will be about 2300 million adults are overweight and more than 700 million obese
In times past it was considered that obesity and overweight was a problem only in countries with high income, but now increases in countries with low and middle incomes.
Causes of Obesity and overweight are:
The excessive increase in the consumption of   foods   high in fat and sugar and low in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
The   decline in physical activity, becoming   humans increasingly sedentary or attached to them, forgetting to practice some kind of exercise or sports.

The effects of obesity and overweight are:
Provoking   cardiovascular diseases appearing as heart disease and stroke,   which are the leading cause of death worldwide,   With 17 million deaths annually.
