` North Dakota is the biggest oil booms in American history and a small town forced to evolve into something it has never been before. Since oil drilling began in Williston, North Dakota, many people around the United States started moving there. Their purpose is to find a job, which they could not find it in their cities, and make money which can be helpful for them and for their families. North Dakota has been the least visited state in the Union. There are no real tourist attractions in South Dakota. The late news man Eric Sevareid, who was born in North Dakota, called his native state “a large, rectangular blank spot in the nation’s mind.” But reporters from all over the world have been coming here lately, because North Dakota boasts one of the most interesting and exciting stories in the country: an honest-to-goodness boom. The state has the lowest unemployment rate in the country, at 3.1 percent. Some wonder who could be out of work, given all the “Help Wanted” signs. North Dakota is No. 1 in job growth and No. 1 in income growth. At the heart of this pros¬perity is the Bakken formation, located in the northwestern part of the state. As a result, North Dakota's economy is the hottest in the U.S. In neighbouring Montana, where oil exploration has been far more modest, the jobless rate stands at six per cent, well shy of the national average of nine per cent. All those jobs have served to make the Bakken region a magnet for newcomers. As many as 30,000 job hunters are expected to flood the area in the coming years, either to work for oil companies directly or, like Tatiana, to sell things to those who do.The boom has also meant a massive increase in commercial traffic coming north over the border.
