Short Story Writing Assignment
“Skylar Jones?” “HERE!” cried out Skylar to her teacher. “So today is your last day here, isn’t it?” asked Mrs. Grace. “Yeah, and I wish it wasn’t. I don’t want to move into a new stinking house.” Skylar Jones is an 8 year old in 3rd grade at Amanda Stout Elementary, and apparently she is not too happy about moving into a new house.
At 3pm the dismissal bell rings, Skylar heads over to her desk and stands on her chair “Attention everyone! Today is my last day and I will miss you all very much, you guys are great friends and I will be stopping by to check on you all. SO BE GOOD!” she shouted. Skylar then steps down and enforces a group hug with the entire class. It was an easy day for her because she was allowed to sit in class and just do crossword puzzles and coloring pages, she liked that for one part but she still wished that she didn’t have to move to another state.
After saying her goodbyes to her classmates and Mrs. Grace, Skylar started to make her way home. “MOM, OPEN THE DOOR IM SOAKING WET!” she shouted as she banged on the front door. Skylar had forgotten her umbrella and it just so turned out that today was the day for a rumbling thunderstorm to happen. “I’m sorry honey I was packing the last bit of stuff upstairs. How was school?” asked Skylar’s mom as she opened the door. Skylar was petting her dog, Teddy. “It was great up until a half hour ago, that will be the last time I see my friends in a long time mom!” stated Skylar. “Can’t we just stay here, please?” Skylar asked. “Sky, everything has been arranged already. We can’t just stay, plus the landlord here is…” Skylar’s mom looks at her and sighs. “It’s complicated,” she says.
The next morning Mom, Skylar and Teddy were on a long drive from Atlanta, Georgia to Tampa, Florida where their new house was located. The drive was not as long as Skylar expected. “Wow that was fast.” She tells her mom as she steps off the moving truck. “So which house is it, mom?”...
