1) Essay : ‘The media can largely be blamed for the world-wide increase in violence’. To what extent do you agree?
First of all we know that "media" refers to various types of communication devices such as, television, radio, internet, and newspaper. Media’s main purpose is to act as communication channels that broadcasts news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages for the consumers or the public. Moreover due to the progress of science and technology, history of media has evolved and reached the present-day world of internet, cellular phones, blogs, podcast and RSS feeds. Meanwhile, “violence” refers to physical force exerted for the purpose of violating, damaging, or abusing anyone. Moreover violence exists in many forms whether physical, verbal, sexual, or psychological, violence still threatens the body in numerous and complex ways.
Today, everywhere around the world all the countries are facing a common problem which is violence. A study of population showed homicide rates is increasing rapidly after the introduction of television. Violence in media is being used widely for entertainment purposes.
In an article published in the New York Times in 1998 it stated, on average in 1997, one act of serious brutality was found for every 4 minutes of entertainment. Today, violence is a major part of television shows. Unfortunately, it’s a fact beyond doubt that violence sells, Many of today’s television shows would be taken off the air if there wasn’t some sort of violence on them. Take some of the most watched shows such as “ER”, “Law and Order” or “CSI” for example, the content of this reality television series are mostly violence. The point is violence is one of the many things that human beings think is exciting to watch. Furthermore reality shows are the perfect instrument to install ideas in the minds of young children.
