Nowadays, media in Australia acts as the role of the watchdog in society. It involved with almost all the fields, such as politics, economics and health which is widely accessible and meets to the audiences of all ages and knowledge level. Media release a large amount of information every day, and this information has certain effect on people (McAllister, Wilkins & Croissant 2011). Some individuals argue that all Australian media should be owned by government while others support that some media should control by private corporations. The purpose of this essay is to show if all the Australian media ownership belongs to government it will result in negative impacts on Australia. The positive effect on government intervention and the negative effects on censorship, propaganda, the diversity of information and monopoly related issues are the main fields to be considered in regards to media ownership.

To begin with, if the Australian government chooses to fully intervene in the media industry, it will possibly bring some benefits to Australia. In one aspect, some harmful information like violence and pornography could be effectively prohibited by the Australian government to block children from these things. Vandergrift (1997) argued that young people are very vulnerable to the impact of the media, as well as the great majority of coming-of-age issues in society. They may be especially susceptible to such temptation, for instance, pornography, violence and drugs.
