Course Overview: Welcome to MGMT 3480. Over the next 13 weeks, we will discuss ethical issues that arise in personal and business settings, and consider their impact on various stakeholders. We will learn about a decision making approach that is both practical and responsible for dealing with ethical issues. Course Objectives: The purpose of the course is to help students bring ethics into their decision making. The course focuses on the individual decision maker, the organization as a context and culture that sets the stage for ethical action, and the broader societal, economic, political, and ecological systems that influence moral decision making. Learning Outcomes: AACSB, an international accreditation body for business schools, requires that its members demonstrate that their students have both general knowledge as well as management specific knowledge. One of the general knowledge areas is ethical reasoning skills. These skills are important as all students will at some time encounter ethical dilemmas that require ethical decision making, no matter the size or nature of the organization they work in. The following are provided as learning outcomes for this course: 1) To demonstrate knowledge of basic ethical concepts and principles; 2) To demonstrate understanding of how personal assumptions, values, and beliefs are connected to ethical decision making; 3) To recognize and identify ethical and unethical practices in business at the individual, group, organizational, and global levels; 4) To demonstrate understanding of the relationship between ethics, stakeholder management, and social...
