Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which was developed in 1943 by Abraham Maslow, discusses how human motivations are affected by Physiological needs, Safety needs, Love and Belonging, Esteem, and Self-actualization. According to his model, he states that most basic levels of needs must be met before the individual will strongly desire or be motivated to seek higher levels of needs. In comparison to my life and my needs, I can fully relate to Maslow’s pyramid of needs base on his model. The first and most important part of Maslow’s model, which is the base of his needs model, is physiological needs such as sleep, food, water, etc. Physiological needs refer to the things that the body needs to fully perform at its full potential. Unhealthy people who are constantly tired, not properly eating, and not taking care of their bodies create a negative character about themselves. I make sure every day my physiological needs at met. This helps me perform at peak and make better decisions throughout the day. Developing this positive process helps me stay focus on the tasks I need to complete. Next, Maslow expresses the need of safety. Safety needs refer to having a sense of security with employment, family, body and health, resources, etc. Because I am a father and provider for my family, it is essential for me to make sure my family is safe and that my job is secure. This is a big motivation for me every day. I know that everything that I do, every decision that I make, must not jeopardize me and my family’s safety needs. After making sure physiological and safety needs are met, Maslow’s pyramid of needs shows that love and belonging needs must be met. Family and friends provide this love and belonging need. My family and friends make me feel supported as an individual. A strong family and good friends make me a happier person.
