Interview and Standards Investigation
State and national standards are guidelines for teachers to follow when implementing instruction in the classroom.   There are teacher, student and content subject standards.   Each core subject has its content and language objectives, which are outlined in the curriculum and lesson plans.   One content area is Social Studies, and is broken into four goal areas.   Social Studies can have a foundation of a Social Studies Teacher, a Social Studies classroom, and along with that comes the Social Studies Curriculum and a Social Studies environment in the classroom (Chapin, June. R. (2013)).   What a better idea to evaluate Social Studies then to go into the classroom and talk to the teacher who is on the frontline.   Then seeing how that is applied according to the standards and grade level of the content area of Social Studies.
The Interview
First of all, if one is to get answers and inside of Social Studies, why not spend sometime with those that teach Social Studies.   My interview consisted of a teacher of 3 years in the grade level of 7th grade.   She is primary a Social Studies teacher all day long.   Her classroom is a Social Studies model with curriculum, environment, all centered on Social Studies.     In the area of standards, the teacher stated that they there are guidelines for her teaching and those they don’t effect on the way she teaches and the way the learning is done inside the classroom.   Since Social Studies are a content subject, it was odd that there are no state standards of assessments.   The teacher does use a lot of informal assessments in the classroom such as reading and writing reviews, and evaluations.   This is used to keep up with the social studies standards.   Lesson plans are drawn up by the teacher, in which she may use many resources and teaching strategies to help her.     The teacher has...
