Final Requirement for Psyche. 1
1. Describe the main character (Melinda Sordino) in terms of emotion, socialization and sexuality before and after the rape.
Before the incident she did have a good childhood with supportive parents, but after the incident she stopped speaking and when she shut down her parents were hurt and didn’t know how to deal with it, she also lost her best friend because of it, because she called the police and forgot to tell the police what happened, so her best friend thinks she called the police to stop the party. Her friends isolated or abandoned her after the incident happened.
2. Why did she stop speaking? What was she trying to accomplish?
Melinda doesn’t really stop talking, but she says only what’s absolutely necessary. As her secret weighs on her more and more, she talks less and less. Eventually she decided that talking is necessary to protect her old friends or current friends and others from Andy.
3. What was the characters coping mechanism in dealing with her problem? What temporarily helped her deal with her abuse?
Melinda’s coping mechanism in dealing with her problem is denial or repression, isolation, Melinda tried to never let the memories that night resurface, creating a lot of stress.
4. If the main character was a Filipino and the setting was in the Philippines, how would her situation be different? How do you think she would react if she was culturally different?
If the main character was a Filipino, I think she will react differently of course; it’s because of the culture, Filipinos are more understandable than Americans or Westerns, her friends especially her best friend will not isolate her, instead of isolating her, they will help or try to understand her and ask why she call the police. I also think if the main character was a Filipino, she will become more weaker than the original character because she has a lot of supporters and always be there for her.
5. Do all...
