Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein is highly valued in today’s culture for its exceptional literary significance. However, the writing’s value was extremely different during the time period in which it was wrote. The most substantial difference is that over two hundred years ago, scholars and higher classes saw it for a popular text, like our modern day Twilight series, if you like. To the contrary, today it appeals to the theories of extraordinary philosophy, insight, and ideals, a change that centers on many deciding factors. Frankenstein’s direct audience was that of a general population, who relied on stories like this one to treat them to excitement or apprehension and be generally entertaining. The story told is one that powerfully analyzes the tragic ordeals of Victor as his monster carries out complete annihilation and misery to those Victor cared about the most. Massive collections of assumptions have sprung from Shelley’s text since its release in, which is the influence as to why the text remains so popular in today’s day and age. The main sources of today’s presumptions are directly in connection with the illustration of the monster itself. As, technology advanced and the idea of the “stage” was crushed by the movement towards motion pictures, the reasoning behind the monster s original conception has dwindled away( Cliff Notes).
The character slowly changed into a gruesome being, possessing green, stitched skin with bolts in the side of the head. Regrettably, the realization of cinema and its instant success led to the end of the viewpoints and philosophies, which were at the heart of Shelley’s Frankenstein. A modern day appropriation of Frankenstein is The Rocky Horror Show, which draws straight from the formation of a monster, yet puts it in a humorous setting, once again lessening the philosophies of the original story.
