Dear Congressmen David Price,
I am a student from 71st High School: School of Arts. I am a little concerned in the process of getting the natural gasses from the ground. Some industries are saying that horizontal drilling is safe because it has been used for over 40 years. Well they are wrong, horizontal drilling combined with hydraulic fracturing is very new and only began in Ohio in 2011. I don’t think Fracking is such a safe thing at all because not everything is being told, they aren’t telling us what chemical that they are using. What makes it worse is that they want to tell us after 40 years of working with Fracking. I wouldn’t say that is smart at all! I would like to know what they are putting in the ground that is so called “helping us”. They are really just trying to get more money; that is what they all care for.
Things nationwide have ramped up because of this technology. The economy is in bad shape already and this isn’t helping. Communities have gotten to start to notice an increase in harmful air emission. It worse that our water is starting to get contaminated because of fracking! Fracking is just causing more and more problems even with its problem associated with the disposal of horizontal fracking waste fluids. The increase pace of natural gas development threatens our fresh streams and rivers that produce our clean drinking water.
The process of fracking involves injecting sand, hundreds of chemicals and millions of gallons of water into a well. It also would cause heavy truck traffic in the area that the fracking is being done at. The contaminated water will also be drunken by animals; people who eat meat should be concerned. If the animal gets sick or contaminated so would the person possibly eating that meat. I say fracking should not be done in our state of North Carolina.
