What is the infectious agent (pathogen) that causes this infectious disease? For example, the name of the bacteria, virus, or parasite.
Hepatitis A is a disease contracted through food and water that comes from human feces. People who handle food like people who work in schools and restaurants that handle food all the time, I think that these people should be vaccinated for sure because you never know when you could come across someone with Hepatitis A. People who ingest food like sea food from contaminated water could also get the disease this is another reason I think people should be aware and get vaccinated if they are not already.
How is this infectious agent transmitted through food or water?
Hepatitis A is transferred through food and water both.. This disease is transferred in ways like people who have hepatitis such as food handlers that work at schools, churches or even fast food places. These people can transfer the disease into the food they are handling. When the disease is transferred into the food whether its there blood or even germs it then passes on to the next person handling the food. This person would be you or who ever that eats the food. Hepatitis A can be transferred through water the same way except people who eat sea food are more likely to catch it like this. If the seafood comes out of water that is contaminated the person eating the seafood can catch the disease.
What is an example of a real life outbreak of this food borne illness in the United States?
I would have to say that if there were in out break of Hepatitis A it would have to be through food like hamburger. Let’s say there was a big batch of hamburger that was handled by someone with hepatitis A. This hamburger would be sent all over the world possibly. After this hamburger was in stores and being purchased by other people this people could catch the disease. This what I think could be a big out break with Hepatitis A.
