  “No one had ever asked me, what it felt like to be me. Once I told the truth about that, I felt free” (Aibileen). Some people are scare to speak up or even talk about their feelings and what they have went through. Most of the times they don’t want to speak up because they are scared about the consequences. The consequences am talking about is what everyone goes through when they speak up whether it’s about someone getting hurt or even the person who spoke up getting hurt. However, what they don’t know is that by them or even one person having the courage to speak up it can help change the world just a little bit. In “The Help”, there is a young white girl named Skeeter that writes about the black women life’s in Mississippi that have spent most of their time taking care of white Southern families. Also in “Too Little, Too Late,” Kathryn Stockett talks about her nanny Demetrie whom she grew up with and whom she wrote about. Yes, I do think that this kind of authorship is appropriate because if the white woman didn’t tell the black women’s stories and experiences, then their stories would have never been known.
White authors do have the right to tell the stories of minority women because if not their stories would have never been known. In the film, The Help at first the black women were scare to speak up and let Skeeter know the truth about their experiences because she was white and they thought she was going to get offended. But Skeeter told them that whatever they had to say it was okay because they weren’t talking about her. However, the black women were still scare to say the truth because if they were to get caught they were in a really bad situation. In the Civil Rights era a black person accused of any sight of offense to a white person they were being expose to intimidation, violence, and possibly lynching by groups such as the Ku Klux Klan.
