Separation from reality is very common with playing video games for example Call of Duty Black Ops within the first day of release gamers all around the world stayed in to play a certain amount of Hours/Days to be the highest ranking. Once a gamer has attained a new game they will clock high hours, an example of this: a student playing Batman Arkham City for 8 Hours with 15 Minutes breaks after each hour when the curtains where drawn by his mother he turned into a vampire when he saw the light and hid under his covers to protect his eyes from the burning light which was burning has iris. Some people see videos games as an escape from reality because they are not what they want to be or they know they should be.
A good example of this is from a video where high school students where asked what video game they enjoyed the most and why, the first person they interview was a geeky looking kid how replied to the question by saying that any call of duty is his favourite game. Action was taken following the interview which was to take these students to a gun range and really see if that can replicate what they do on video games, surprisingly this kid was able to shoot the guns and off camera the kid was crying and sucking his thumb while has mum comforted him like a little baby. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SgM_acEsqw
