Organized crime has been in existence since the early 1900’s starting with the Mafia who migrated from Italy and other surrounding countries to the United States. Even then they were a problem for society with their illegal activities such as gambling, racketeering and prostitution, along with being violent. They were able to give individuals and law enforcement a glimpse of their power and manipulation to get what they wanted and still continues to this day with not only the new generation of what the mafia is but also the street and motorcycle gangs.
Identify the problems presented and the various relationships established by organized crime
Organized crime is a contributor to the destruction of our neighborhoods. There is drugs and prostitution on our streets and corruption in our political offices and our local law enforcement departments. Organized crime groups always use fear and intimidation within the community to be able to get away with the illegal activities that they are doing. The street gangs are also apart of organized crime and they use violence against the innocent individuals to get their point across.
There are many illegal activities that are connected to organized crime, bribery and extortion is part of politics in the different cities. An organized crime group will threaten a political party to sway a vote or not take part in a certain law that may be proposed all in the name of keeping their pockets lined. If the organized crime groups keep the foot on the necks of the political officials our neighborhoods will continue to be rundown with unwanted crime.
