Conceptualizing a Business Paper
This paper will go into Nike’s beginnings, product line, and mission statement. It will create a vision for Nike and define the guiding principles, analyze how the vision, mission and values guide Nike’s direction and lastly it will evaluate how Nike handles customers and competitive advantage. This paper will give you an understanding of what it means to be one of the largest shoes manufactures.
Nike was established in 1964 with $1,000 contributed by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. Nike is currently one of top shoe companies. “Along with Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and Disney, Nike is one of the most recognizable brand names in the world. Nike’s corporate slogan – ‘Just do it’ – has become a maxim in both public and private life and its swoosh logo is ubiquitous” (McKay, 1999). Though the years they have been able to create new technology and get the best and hottest athletes to endorse their products. Nike line includes shoes, clothing and accessories which include socks, hats, bags, watches, sports equipment, headbands, hair bands and arm bands. According to "About Nike Inc" (2014), the mission statement is “To bring inspirations and innovation to every athlete* in the world. (* if you have a body, you are an athlete)” Nike’s product line has evolved and changes with new technology that emerges. They are able to distinguish their products by the quality and performance. The creation of Nike Fuel is one example of Nike’s uses of the newest technology. Nike fuel is a wristband that keeps track of any movements that will burn calories. It uses the same technology as a wireless ear piece and it use a program that is used on cell phones or tablet. The program keeps track of the movement of the wearer to encourage increased activity. This product is one of the many products that Nike has created to create a healthier world.
