Influence of cinema on today’s youth
I often see a street hawker humming a popular tune of one or the other film song. I hear many young children debating about the screen performances of one or the other heroine. I see people imitating the styles of actors and actresses. The influence of cinema on youth is so much that sometimes I see some adventurous youth make advances to a girl, imitating a hero of a film story, and find themselves in trouble.
In the last fifty years cinema has not only become a serious art form but a study itself. Cinema is an another way to get into the world of wonderland where you can somehow live the life, feel its momentum and cherish yourself for few hours forgetting all your miseries and problems. When man comes home after day’s work, he needs some sort of entertainment and relaxation. Cinema has proved a wonderful and forceful means of entertainment and amusement.
Film is a universal teacher. It educates the people in different branches of learning. Our film producers have made many wonderful films which threw a light on social evils like untouchability, casteism, unemployment, dowry, the curse of widowhood, etc. Such films ripen our eyes and create in us an urge for improvement. Cinema has a great commercial value also. It itself is a huge industry. It employs large number of people.
“Every coin has two sides”. In the same way the influence of cinema also has negative shades. Though cinema is a medium of entertainment, in the name of entertainment many kinds of films are produced which tempt and arouse the base animal instincts. There are very few films which family can watch together. Even comedy has become vulgar. Expletives, swear words, violent gory scenes are too many and to top it all to be in the crowds and to keep their cash registers jingling every film has a needless item number (“women treated as item”) with vulgar lyrics and dance moves by skinny clad women. The story or any message to be conveyed takes a back seat....
