You’re probably wondering “What’s Bollywood?” (Otherwise why would you have picked this up? Unless you want to see my definition of it…) well here it is: Bollywood is India’s film making industries nickname. Most people have never heard of it because it is usually not in English but there are movies from Bollywood that are spoken in 17 different languages to choose from and of course modern versions of Bollywood movies have subtitles in English. But unlike American movies from Hollywood which is mostly either comedy, action, talking, ect. Bollywood movies are mainly musicals so when the actors are chosen for an action / comedy they have to be able to dance. And it is sometimes because of this that Americans aren’t fond of Bollywood movies. American movies usually only have musicals for children’s movies but in Bollywood movies there can be 2-3 dancing scenes and they also lip-sing the son they are dancing to so it will seem realistic. And since many of the actors sometimes play gods of different religions in different films they are sometimes worshiped.
The filmmaking industry is centered in Bombay / Mumbai. Many of their movies are based on folklore of India and its people’s cultures showing the world sometimes an inside view of things not generally seen by tourists. Before many of its films were usually shot in India to avoid much cost. But now thanks to modern video editing programs and cheap airplanes some movies are made even in the U.S.!
Most of their movies have the general ‘Good vs. Bad’ theme but modern movies are sometimes just Indian versions of American movies. Their movies are sometimes used to teach valuable lessons in a different way but their movies usually reflect the Indian culture about the value of family and obedience towards parents and so on. Unfortunately the movies can sometimes be 2-4 hours long of drama and edge seated suspense.
I myself have watched some Bollywood movies to research them and I enjoyed them very much....
