The purpose of the study was to find out if physical therapy could be a treatment for binge eating disorder (BED). The study aimed to review randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated physical therapy on binge eating and physical and mental health in BED patients (Vancampfort et al., 2011). Participants in the three RCTs were 211 females diagnosed based on self-report questionnaires with BED between the ages of 25-63 years.   Females in the study were all community-participants. The physical therapy interventions could consist of aerobic exercises, resistance or relaxation training, yoga, and/or massage and were required to be in accordance with the World Confederation for Physical Therapy position statement (Vancampfort et al., 2011).
RCTs were selected by two independent investigators.   The independent investigators searched EMBASE, PsycINFO, PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, and the Cochrane Library for RCTs. The two researchers independently reviewed the studies found based on the Jadad scale. The final decision was made by a third reviewer. The Jadad scale focused internal validity, especially quality of randomization, double blinding and withdrawals (Vancampfort et al., 2011). Reviewers crosschecked data analysis forms and found three RCTs. The three RCTs used different interventions, durations, and controls. The interventions, duration, and controls used were walking for 44 weeks versus a wait list, aerobic exercise and standard care for 44 weeks versus standard care, and yoga for 25 weeks versus a wait list...
