Equal Rights for Gays and Lesbians
Imagine that there is a couple named Briana and Sam. They are a lesbian couple who wants to get married, but the state that they are in won’t allow them to be married. Many people believe that people of the same gender should not be allowed to get married, if it’s ok for people from different races to get married, then why not the same gender. Imagine that this same couple wants to have a baby and decide to adopt. But because they are a lesbian couples their chances of adopting are slim. “The debate over extending marriage rights to same-sex couples remains a hot-button issue in the United States and around the world” (Becker). Gay marriage is illegal because people believe that gay marriage is a sin. It is based off relgion and in the bible it says that marriage is between a man and a woman. Also the government never considered gay marriage. Gay marriage doesn’t meet the legal definition of marriage. Gays and lesbians should have the same equal rights as straight people.
Some people believe that gay and lesbian marriage is a sin. The people who do not believe in same sex marriage believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. God made marriage for man and woman and it should stay like that. Opponents believe that if gay marriage is accepted it will lead to other problems, like polygamous marriage and incestuous. A same sex couple can’t take care of child like a mother and father could. It is bad for the child, the child can’t get a mother’s love from a gay man and a father’s love can’t be giving from a gay mother. Same sex couples shouldn’t be allowed to adopt either. Also a same sex couple can’t produce children together, so the couple shouldn’t be together. “Proponents of the same-sex marriage argue that gay and lesbians couples should be entitled to the same rights as heterosexual couples under the law” (Becker).
