I am left handed, but I can write, straighten my hair, and drive with my right hand with as much dexterity as my left. In fewer words, I am ambidextrous. Most people acquire this talent through some natural gift or some lofty desire to defy normal limitations. I wish I could say that I was one of these people, but I am not. A combination of low bone density, osteochondroma tumors, and a healthy dose of klutziness results in my abnormal ability to break my arm. My incredible ability to break my arm excessively has allowed me to gradually become ambidextrous by necessity. My fragility has led to fourteen broken arms, five delightful arm surgeries, and one painful case of arthritis. My knack for breaking myself has quickly taught me how to adapt in order to still be able to accomplish my goals and everyday activities. It has also taught me how to design some pretty amazing casts, my current one is candy cane red with a forest green stripe and dazzling gold sparkles, and to never underestimate the power of Advil. I refuse to let life come to a crashing halt just because one of my crashes has resulted in a broken bone. I refuse to put my life on hold and force others to make countless accommodations for me just because I happen to usually have a cast as an accessory to my arm. Instead, I get creative and through trial and error, I make my own accommodations.   When you start kindergarten with your dominant arm in a cast, you quickly learn how to rely on the other one to learn to write. When you're in middle school and everybody starts straightening their hair, and your dominant arm is in a cast from your latest surgery, you buy burn cream and learn how to do it with the other one. When you turn fifteen and you want to get your driving permit, but you have a cracked elbow that has resulted in you having to wear a full splint, you hold on tight with the other hand and pray you do not crash.   Broken arms hurt, casts are hot and itchy, arthritis results in constant nagging...
