Abortion is a well debated topic and many people have very different views on the legality of abortions. In my opinion abortion should be viewed as a woman choice. There are several reasons why abortions should be legal if a woman chooses to abort a pregnancy.   Many women may encounter situations within their lives were abortions maybe their only options. Access to legal, safe abortions reduces injury and death caused by unsafe, illegal abortions. However I do not believe abortion should be used as a form of birth control, but if a woman chooses to have an abortion she should have the legal right to do so.
Woman encounter situations just a rape and may become pregnant from that rape. I have experienced this on a personal level, not myself but a very close friend of my. She was attending college and lived on campus, and one night while walking from her car after leaving the library she was attacked and raped. Not only did she have to deal with the assault she also had to deal with being pregnancy from the assault.   Because this accrued back in the mid 1980’s and to our knowledge and research could not find a legal way to handle this in our state at the time. So she travel a few states over not knowing this was not a legist doctor she had an unsafe abortion that has affected her live even today. She cannot bear children and this has caused her more psychology problems in my opinion that the assault. If my friend would have had the legal choices women deserved available to her, she could have had a safer way to aborting her pregnancies. Published in the (Institute of Medicine, 1975 article) in 1969, one year before New York State legalized abortion, complications from illegal abortions accounted for 23 percent of all pregnancy- related admissions.
