A change of plans
I looked out the window to the sky, the high sunlit clouds drifted across a clear blue sky. The weather was just nice for a barbeque. I smiled to myself as I marinated the chicken wings. We had been planning this barbeque for a while and the day had finally arrived. I phoned my friends, checking to see how their food preparation was coming about. Agreeing to meet at noon, I hung up the phone and decided to take a shower before leaving the house.
Every one of us brought what we are preparing. When I reached East Coast Park, all of them were already there. James and David were laying out the charcoal on the barbeque pit in order to set up the fire. While the boys were having a hard time, Sarah and I sat at the benches talking about what we had done during the holiday.
When they finally set up the fire, the sky above was full of tumultuous, dark ragged clouds. A curtain of rain suddenly beat down from the heavens and we ran to seek shelter. A dark mood came over us as the fire had just been set up and all the food was destroyed. “What should we do now?” Sarah asked despairingly. “Maybe we should just go to that restaurant to have our meal.” I answered her.
With a heavy heart, we went to a Thai restaurant that was just beside the shelter. Thankfully the meal was good and we started joking after a while. We decided to share this story with our friends and we were guessing what reactions they would give after hearing this funny story. In a burst of laughter, we spent the afternoon together.
Although the rain destroyed our initial plan, but I do not think that the second plan is bad. As long as we stay with our friends, happiness will stay with us. As the going says”A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words”. Whenever we are in trouble, do not forget, we still have friends.
